Synopsis
Jim Williams (Kevin Spacey), the owner of a local antique store, was a rather eccentric self-made millionaire known for his loving restorations of local houses as well as his grand parties at which all the most prominent members of Savannah society were always in attendance. It was after one of these parties that Mr. Williams had the bad luck to shoot to death his rather more unlucky close friend, a Mr. Billy Hanson (Jude Law). In self-defense, Jim said.

It happened that at the time of the murder, the writer John Kelso (John Cusack) was in Savannah to write a magazine article about the Williams parties. John had the good luck to fall right into the middle of a real story, a sensational murder trial. And to take an apartment next door to Mandy Nicholls and Joe Odom.

John also gets mixed up with characters like the socialite Serena Dawes, the female impersonator The Lady Chablis, and Luther Driggers, the inventor of the flea collar. Based on the best-selling book of the same name.
