COCK & BULL STORY marks the
directorial debut of Billy Hayes,
whose real-life ordeal inside a
Turkish prison was dramatized in
Alan Parker's modern classic
MIDNIGHT EXPRESS. Hayes' film
centers on lifelong friends Travis
(Bret Roberts) and Jacko (Beverly
Hills 90210's Brian Austin Green),
who live hardscrabble lives in the
tough industrial slums of South Side
Chicago. Travis is an aspiring boxer
on the verge of big-time success,
while Jacko's failed boxing career
has left him cynical, angry, and
violent. The pair's relationship is
increasingly threatened by Jacko's
envy and resentment and is even
further strained by Travis'
burgeoning homosexuality. As Travis
and Jacko head toward their
inevitable confrontation, Hayes'
film becomes a gripping exploration
of the destructive forces of
machismo and homophobia. |
