Synopsis |
|
Spanning three decades from the
early 1920s to the end of WWII, the
story begins as a disenchanted
British army captain, Charles Ryder
(Irons), looks back on his earlier
life, in happier days. It was then
he first encountered, and became
enamoured with, Sebastian Flyte --
the dazzling ill-starred son of Lord
and Lady Marchmain. Sebastian brings
Charles to the family home of
Brideshead, beginning Charles'
compulsive love affair with this
strange, doomed family, but never
fulfilled sexual desires. While
Charles ends up leading a hetero
life, Sebastian becomes a
full-fledged homo, eventually taking
up residence in North Africa with a
German lover. |
